About
The Suzuki Early Childhood curriculum is the only music course for children based on the highly successful Suzuki Method of music teaching which aims to build on the child's natural delight in learning and lay the foundation for future learning. Through Suzuki Method, parents and children have enjoyed success with instrumental music study for over 40 years.
By age of 3 the brain has reached almost 80% of its adult size. Early experiences provide the base for the brain's organisational development and functioning throughout life. They have a direct impact on how children develop learning skills as well as social and emotional abilities. The Suzuki Curriculum is designed to develop the whole child mentally and intellectually by using musical concepts combined with reading and activities that strengthen vocabulary. No other children's music course is built exclusively on these proven successful concepts.
The weekly interactive music class take place in a group setting with a mix ability age group from 0-3 years old in which mothers/father/carers have an active role. Because of the age range, children participate in activities in a manner that is consistent with their age and develop more skills and awareness as they become older. Through playing instruments (mostly percussion), singing, nursery rhymes, circle-songs and reading, the curriculum is designed to give young children a broad exposure to music as well as vocabulary development, social skills and increased mental focus.
Some of the benefits the Curriculum offers:
Children who attend the lessons for most of their first three years usually have above-average vocabulary and focus when they graduate our class.

Suzuki Early Childhood Concepts
Just as every parent knows that their child will learn and speak their native language fluently, other abilities can be developed.
|
The earlier a child learns the satisfaction that comes with success, the earlier that child can move on to new skill development in any of the domains. (cognitive, affective kinesthetic).
|
When parents, teachers and adults around the child are supportive and helpful, when they reward the child with positive feedback for efforts they make and when they show acceptance of the small successes that children have, the environment is nurturing and helpful for growth.
|
All children use their senses for learning and their senses will motivate them to imitate their peers (especially if it looks like fun). They identify readily with children who are a little older and represent a "working" model. They often look to children just a little younger to practise the social skills that they have learned from older children.
|
Success in any task has some implicit rewards but when the environment provides some social or physical rewards like approval or a hug, the child quickly learns to repeat the effort.
|
When parents are supportive and actively help children, their accurate feedback helps the process of learning to focus and learning becomes thoroughly mastered. Although a child learns by experience to avoid a hot stove after touching it, the feedback for much learning is more often muted and needs to be supported by an adult.
|
The social reward of a supportive parent or adult (or other child) will speed the learning and remove doubt about what constitutes success in a child's learning experience. No encouragement negates the fundamental reward of success in any learning experience. It is possible for the physical environment to provide the reward necessary but if there is no encouragement from any aspect, the learning is not complete.

Lessons
Ages: Newborns through to three years old.
During our weekly one-hour class, your child will enjoy singing, movement, instrument playing and listening. School readiness skills - like sharing, taking turns, following directions, and pre-literacy activities - are part of every class. Each child is paired with an adult, usually a parent, who participates in the music activities with their child. Classes end with a story and time for parent journaling.
The outcomes of these activities include increased vocabulary, socially acceptable behaviour, sensitive group participation, and the ability to listen at an early age.
Home Practice
Suzuki Early Childhood Education extends beyond the weekly class to your home. A CD and booklet containing most of the songs and rhymes used in class is a required purchase the first day. As a parent, you will be asked to play the CD at home. Through regular listening, your child's familiarity with the music used in class will increase their joy and deepen their learning.
Before lessons can commence it is vital that prospective parents understand the philosophy behind the Suzuki method. All parents should read "Nurtured by Love" and/or "Ability Development from age Zero" by Shinichi Suzuki. ‘Nurtured by Love’
