Melinda was born into a musical family. She received her first piano and cello lessons from her grandparents, also professional musicians. After graduating from both instruments at the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceo in Barcelona she continued her studies at the Rotterdam University of the Arts, CODARTS in The Netherlands and at the Sibelius Academy in Finland (Erasmus Exchange) where she studied with cellists Herre Jan Stegenga, Ad van Dongen and Martti Roussi. She obtained the Bachelor degree and the Postgraduate Diploma (PG) with Honours.
In 2007 she was appointed by the Dutch Government as one of its emerging talents, being awarded with the Huygens Scholarship Talent Program (HSP) to study at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music with cellists Mats Lidström and Jeniffer Ward Clarke (baroque cello). Interested in musicology and in research she was awarded the Master in Performance in Research (MMus) with Distinction and received the Greenwich Award, the David Taylor Trust Award and the Santander Award. During her time at the Royal Academy Melinda published a Tango Method for String players on the performance practice traditions in tango.
She received masterclasses from great musicians like Steven Isserlis, David Geringas, Robert Cohen, Anner Bylsma, Lluis Claret, Colin Carr, Gary Hoffman, Badke String Quartet, Vermeer Quartet, Jerusalem Quartet, Thomas Brandis, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Jeremy Menuhin, among others. Melinda performed in many orchestras and chamber music ensembles like the London Sinfonietta, the Ensemble Iberoamericano, and is regularly invited to perform as soloist, having recently performed the Triple Concerto of Beethoven and the Schumann Cello Concerto in Mexico, The Netherlands and Spain.
As a teacher for the past twenty years Melinda has developed a reputation as a successful teacher at a variety of ages and levels. She uses a wide range of teaching methodologies like the Suzuki (instrumental) and Kodaly methods (theory), incorporating the innovative curriculum of Music Mind Games. She is an accredited Suzuki cello teacher and Suzuki Early Childhood (SECE) teacher, qualified by the British Suzuki Institute and by the European Suzuki Association. Melinda is a fully qualified music teacher (QTS) with a PGCE in secondary music. She has delivered the National Curriculum for the past eight years in state and independent Primary and Secondary Schools in the UK and helped develop the Wider Opportunities programme (cello) for the Borough of Kensington & Chelsea. She has been working as Lead Instrumental Teacher for the Tri-Borough Music Hub and successfully managed the Saturday music School at Marylebone (London). She leads several children’s orchestras and ensembles and is regularly invited to teach workshops and pedagogical concerts.
Melinda currently combines her performing and teaching careers, working as a Music Coordinator/Teacher at a primary school in Braintree and has recently moved her private music teaching studio at Beaulieu, Chelmsford.
